Derek tends to have a large circle of friends, due to his GENUINE and COMPASSIONATE nature. He honestly cares about everyone; the individuals in his personal life as well as his students. He will sit down with a student and help them improve upon something for long stretches of time, without rushing them or losing his patience. He is also very PATIENT, which makes him an excellent teacher, and results in him being generally well liked by students. 

SPONTANEITY is also very important to Derek. He does not tend to make long term plans often, and does things on a whim. This influences his purchases, travel, and it even extends into his dating life. While he does make some rash decisions, he is always very CONSCIENTIOUS about his financial status. He is very aware of how much he is able to spend, and by keeping up with his finances, he is able to live a very comfortable lifestyle.

Derek's height has always been the most noticeable aspect of his appearance. Since he was young, he always towered over his peers. Today, at 6'4", the trend is still the same. He has a very light black complexion, almost Haitian or Mediterranean looking. A sharp jawline defines his face, which he only shaves on the days he teaches classes. His hair is always cut short, and is jet black. His eyebrows are thick and waxed, as he waxes his chest as well. Derek was also blessed with deep chocolate colored eyes framed by long lashes.

Raised only by his mother, Derek had a very difficult childhood. His dad left when his mother was still pregnant, and disappeared never to be found again. Therefore, money was tight and Derek grew up a lot faster than most children.
